Pacific Palisades Senior Lead Officer Michael Moore gave his crime report for the beginning of July.
Senior Lead Officer Michael Moore updated our town’s crime statistics through July 10. There seems to be an uptick in Burglary/Theft from Vehicle and Stolen Vehicles. The City voted on July 1 to cut police funding.
(In a July 7 CTN Story “LAPD Appreciation Rally Will Be Held July 11” it was reported that the City Council, including Councilman Mike Bonin, voted on July 1 to cut police funding by $150 million, which would lower staffing to 9,757 officers by the summer of 2021.
That decision will cause the City to hire only half of the number of officers needed to replace those who resign or retire in the coming year.
One officer, who did not want to be identified, told Circling the News that the decision doesn’t make any sense, because it means that if extra staff is needed, officers will be working overtime, which would be more expensive than hiring new officers.
The L.A. Times reported on July 1 (“Los Angeles Cuts LAPD Spending, Taking Police Staffing to Its Lowest Level in 12 Years”) that “Of the $150 million in cuts to the LAPD, about $97 million would come from cuts to overtime pay for police officers. Council members and the city’s policy analysts cautioned that at least a portion of those overtime hours could still end up being worked by the LAPD, particularly if the city experiences a major emergency.)
BURGLARY:
July 5, in the 300 block of Amalfi. The two suspects (one described as a 5’7” male of slight build, no further description for the second) smashed a sliding glass door to enter victim’s home. The suspects fled the area in a white 4-door Toyota Camry after the victim screamed at them.
BURGLARY/THEFT FROM VEHICLE:
June 7 to 8, 5 p.m. to 10 a.m., in the 15300 block of Earlham Street. The suspect entered victim’s vehicle and took golf clubs.
July 9 to 10, 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., in the 900 block of Hartzell Street. The suspect entered victim’s vehicle and took sunglasses, tools and a flashlight.
July 10, at 10:16 a.m., at Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset. The white male suspect (5’11” 200 lbs., 35 to 40 years of age) entered victim’s vehicle using a key placed on the vehicle tire. The suspect took a phone, wallet and watch, then fled the area in a black/blue BMW X7.
July 10, 8 p.m. in the 17900 block of Pacific Coast Highway. The male suspect (brown hair, brown eyes, 5’8″ 150 lbs., 17/20 years) entered victim’s vehicle and took a wallet.
July 17, 9:58 a.m., in the 1000 block of Spezia Place. The two suspects (1. male Hispanic, black hair, 5’6″/5’7″ 170 lbs., 20/30 years, and 2. No further description) entered victim’s vehicle, took tools and fled in a maroon Lincoln Navigator.
STOLEN VEHICLE
July 3 to 4, 8:30 p.m. to 9 a.m., at Samoa Way. The suspect took victim’s vehicle from a driveway.
July 3 to 4, 10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. in the 200 block of Tranquillo Drive. The suspect took victim’s vehicle from the street.
July 6, 6:20 to 8:20 p.m., at Embury and Bashford. The suspect took victim’s vehicle from the street.
July 7 to 8, 10:30 p.m. to 10 a.m., in the 400 block of Beirut Avenue. The suspect took victim’s vehicle from the street.
July 7 to 8, 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., in the 600 block of Via de la Paz. The suspect took victim’s vehicle from a driveway.
July 7 to 8, 8 p.m. to 11 a.m., in the 15200 block of Earlham Street. The suspect took victim’s vehicle from the street.
THEFT:
June 11, 1 to 5 p.m., in the 600 block of Alma Real. The suspect (possibly hired workers) took victim’s watch and wallet.
July 3 to 6, 1 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., in the 17400 block of Revello Drive. The male Hispanic suspect took packages from victim’s front porch.
July 8, 12:50 a.m., in the 400 block of Beirut Avenue. The male white suspect (5’8″ 150/170 lbs., 20/25 years) took victim’s bicycle from the driveway.
July 10, 6:30 p.m., in the 17300 block of Sunset. The male white suspect (brown hair, 5’7″ 160 lbs., 75 years) entered victim’s business, took food and left without paying.
TRESPASSING:
July 7, 11:30 a.m., in the 16100 block of Alcima Avenue. A 30-year-old male was arrested for trespassing after entering and refusing to leave victim’s property.
UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF NARCOTICS:
July 5, 5:15 p.m., at Pacific Coast Highway and Beach House Way. A 23-year-old male was arrested for being under the influence of narcotics after being investigated for an assault with a deadly weapon incident.
