GOODIE BAGS FOR KIDS:
Tomorrow, May 2, between 10 a.m. and noon, the Palisades-Malibu YMCA will give out free activity bags for the kids.
Executive Director Jim Kirtley said that May 2 is Healthy Kids Day and even though everything is shut down, “it doesn’t mean that the Y can’t celebrate. We’ve put together free bags of goodies for the kids with games, snacks and other surprises.”
He added that the Y is also creating a series of videos with fun and healthy ideas.
Kirtley is also collecting donations for the Y’s Shower Kit Drive, which will provide supplies for the homeless. Needed are towels, socks, feminine products, deodorant, toothbrush & toothpaste and a comb or brush. Or you can buy the items online and have them sent to the Y or make a donation of $50 that will provide two shower kits. Visit ymcala.org/emergencyfund.
TP YOUTH AUDITIONS FOR ‘Aladdin, Jr.’
Although the timing and specific details are still unclear because of Covid-19, program director Lara Ganz is inviting kids to audition by video for “Aladdin, Jr.,” a summer production at Theatre Palisades.
For the first stage of auditions, children in third through eighth grade should send a one-minute video, singing a song from a Broadway musical or Disney movie musical. The video should be emailed by May 16 to Ganz at calray.ganz@gmail.com.
Once the video is received, those auditioning will be instructed on the next steps.
Ganz is currently hosting free online theater and creativity Zoom meetings for TPY: email her if your child wants to participate.
She shared a video of Spencer Rodman, who has participated in numerous TYP Productions, such as “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Lion King.”
“Spencer is the leader every director dreams of having in their cast,” Ganz wrote. “He is always eager to work hard, is the first one off- book, loves a challenge, shows compassion and constant support towards his cast mates and never complains.”
She attached a video that Rodman had made playing three characters, including Bernie Sanders in a cooking spoof.
