One resident wrote Circling the News in a February 9 email, “Last night as my husband and I walked along Sunset into town at 7 p.m. to have dinner, we came across a homeless man with no pants on who was on the sidewalk adjacent to the Palisades High School baseball field.
“He was clearly distressed as he yelled things at us, and we had to walk in the street to avoid him. This doesn’t feel like the safe community it used to be with the reports of a hold up in Gelson’s parking lot, armed robberies in town, and vandalism at Ronnie’s and the Garden Café.”
The Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness and LAPD Officers Rusty Redican and Jimmy Soliman actively engage the homeless. Circling the News reported the incident to Redican, who wondered if there was a description.
The reader responded “It was very dark, and his pants were off. We couldn’t get away from him because it was on Sunset with heavy traffic.” The reader described the man as African American, less than 6 feet tall and 30s to 50s. “I put my head down and jumped into the street and went fast,” the reader wrote, saying that the incident had been reported to Michael Moore via email.
Circling the News contacted Redican, who wrote that he had been off this week and would be back on February 12. “A recurring problem is that we have a constant stream of homeless getting off the various bus stops in the Palisades,” Redican wrote.

BURGLARY
February 4 to 8, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., in the 400 block of Alma Real Dr. The suspect smashed a glass door to enter victim’s home and ransacked all bedrooms. No property was listed as missing.
BURGLARY THEFT FROM VEHICLE
February 5, 10:10 to 12:15 a.m., in the 500 block of Los Liones. The suspect punched out the door lock of victim’s vehicle to enter and took a driver license.
February 6 to 7, 11 p.m. to 10:27 a.m., in the 800 block of Muskingum Avenue. The suspect entered victim’s vehicle and took a computer and sunglasses.
February 8, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., at Temescal Canyon Road and Bowdoin. The suspect smashed a window on victim’s vehicle and took a purse and money.
February 8 to 9, 4 p.m. to 9:25 a.m., in the 16800 block of Livorno Drive. The suspect entered victim’s vehicle and took sunglasses and boxes.
ROBBERY
February 4, 7:20 p.m., in the 15400 block of Sunset Boulevard. The suspect (male white, 6′ 140 lbs. 20 years old, with a beard) approached victim from behind and grabbed victim’s purse. The suspect dragged victim to the ground but was unable to get the purse. The suspect then fled the area.
February 5, 7 p.m., in the 15300 block of Antioch. The suspect (male white, 5’10”) entered victim’s business, pointed a handgun at store employee, and demanded the employee open business safe. The suspect took victim’s money and fled.
THEFT
February 7, 9:30 a.m., in the 16300 block of Pacific Coast Highway. The suspects tricked victim into thinking they were employees for “Stub Hub” after victim mistakenly call the suspect’s phone number. The suspect then tricked victim into paying for event tickets with eBay gift cards.
Moore said it is important to report all crimes. If a crime is not reported, it is not entered into the LAPD database–and crime numbers drive the allocation of officers. If people in Pacific Palisades don’t report crimes, this area is viewed as low crime, which means less police coverage.

I would also contact the Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness. They would be quick to make sure that one of the social workers this town has helped pay for will make contact with the person immediately.

Any way to find out if all these thefts from vehicles if the stolen items were in plain site or if cars are being broken into regardless of visable items. Perhaps this can be noted in the reports going forward.
