Artist Shirley Peppers’ art will be featured in the Palisades Library community room, 851 Alma Real. The opening reception is 5:30 to 7:30 on Friday, February 7 and the show will run through February 28.

The Pacific Palisades Art Association will hold its monthly meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, February 11 at the community room. The guest speaker will be Monique Boileau, who will discuss her paintings, her festival art and her curation of the Mar Vista Music and Art Walk, a quarterly event focused on including artists of all skill levels and socioeconomic circumstances.

She will speak on her experiences as a festival painter and curator, and the inclusive environments that can and should be built around the arts. She will share her process for conceptualizing a piece and demonstrate her live painting techniques.

Boileau paints surreal landscapes and portraits influenced by life as a festival painter, environmental awareness and spirituality.

“If I had to choose a style, I’d call my work magical realism,” Boileau said. “Lately, I’ve been working on portraits of friends and artists who are in my life right now; my living, breathing inspirations. It’s a crazy time to be an artist, and I want to capture the amazing experiences I’m having.”

The painting (below) Boileau said was inspired by a photo taken of her and a friend in the Red Rock Canyon, near Las Vegas.
