New DRB Rules and St. John’s Sign Discussed
The Pacific Palisades Design Review Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, at the Palisades-Malibu YMCA, 821 Via de la Paz. The public is invited.
New board member Maryam Zar, a former president of the Pacific Palisades Community Council, will be introduced.
The City of L.A. has proposed new draft guidelines for all Design Review Boards that would require boards, including the Pacific Palisades board, to meet downtown at 4:30 p.m. instead of at a neighborhood location.
The Saint John’s Physician Sign that was placed on the 881 Alma Real building will be discussed, as will public right-of-way structures and signs and code enforcement procedures.
There will be a public hearing on the replacement of about 25 feet 8 inches of fixed glass panels with sliding glass doors at an existing commercial building.
All DRB meetings have a public comment period.
The Saint Johns sign is informative and helps people get to the right location in the building. It’s small and unobtrusive. What is offensive is the massive Palisades Post sign which leads people to believe that the Post owns the entire building. It was put up some time ago and had a lot of people shaking their heads. Instead of the Palisades Post sign, why not have the buildings owners put the name of their building on the outside, as large as the Palisades Post sign. The St Johns Health directions sign should stay.
My husband and I grumble about the sad state of the park strip in front of that building. He was told by a tenant that they have complained to the building owners, to no avail. Can anyone encourage more aesthetic maintenance of the landscaping and park strip?
And I agree, the St. John’s signage is inoffensive.
Absolutely agree with Dee.
