CTN ran a story about a Fair Insurance Plan check delivered to a location in the Alphabet Streets. The home had been destroyed by the Palisades Fire, but the mailbox was intact. Several readers commented.
One wrote “I went to the Rancho Park Post Office this past Saturday (February 1) and a postal worker told a group of us that mail carriers would try and deliver mail to houses still standing – and so it’s true.”
Another wrote, “On Saturday afternoon while I was picking up my mail at the Rancho Park PO the staff announced that many of the carriers were out delivering mail to homes in the Palisades. They stated the Rancho Park Post Office is running out of room for all the mail:(. They seemed to know based on the address which mail was on the way to be delivered but many there waiting were given their mail and packages.”
“So strange, when I was at the Rancho Park post office last week, there was a woman whose house had not been destroyed asking when mail service would resume, and I overheard the postal worker say not for a long time because they wouldn’t resume until they could reopen the post office building.”
Another wrote, “I am in the Highlands and miraculously spared any damage on Palisades Circle. . .all our utilities are connected, we are using but not drinking the water.”
Another reader told CTN that if I wanted to have a Palisades reunion and visit with a lot of “former” residents,, the location to go was the Rancho Post Office around 9:30 a.m.
As a note, the Palisades Post Office was not burnt in the Palisades Fire, nor was the Legion, CVS, and the Palisades Garden Café.
I was at my house in the Marquez Knolls area today, Tuesday, and sure enough our regular mail carrier came by in her truck, waving and smiling. I have no idea if she was checking her route or actually leaving mail, but mine and a few others are the only ones standing in my block and are not going to be suitable for occupancy for a LONG time!!
We have gas, electricity and water in highlands. Really wish they would turn on
Palisades Drive city street lights . We are living at home too, just using bottled water to drink. Vons is open too.
I went to Ranchi Park yesterday despite having already set up a PO Box, which is working out great, because I wanted to be certain nothing was languishing there. Nothing was. However, I saw several examples of people in situations like you describe above.
