LETTER TO SM MAYOR:
One resident sent a letter that he had sent to Santa Monica Mayor Lana Negrete:
I wanted to give the city of Santa Monica a heads up that a very dear friend was getting a parking permit for his new temporary housing and while at your office his car was broken into and they stole what little possessions he had left in the 4rth street garage.
His work helped him replace items needed for his work and his childrens schooling, which included laptops, tablets, etc.
To add injury to insult when the friend filed a police report , he was told it happens all the time. I think that that Santa Monica, the City Council, the police department, which all know about this issue – and the fact that hundreds of people will be coming to this location (4th street parking garage ) to get parking permits, and the fact that so many people who have been evacuated and are living day-to-day out of their car, the city should really protect these parking garages.
I have also sent this letter to the Palisades Community Council because many residents will need permits if they have found accommodation in Santa Monica.
Please we need to let people know that their cars are not safe at this time in Santa Moncia. Please catch these thieves .
MAYOR’S RESPONSE:
Thank you, for your email. I am going to work with our police department in our city manager’s office to see what we can do. There will be lots of new issues and credit ways. We are gonna have to adjust them, so I appreciate you bringing this up to us.
CTN’S RESPONSE:
People who want to run for elected office need to take an IQ test.
STILL STANDING:
A member of the Historical Society asked about Aldersgate and Founders Oak Island. Today, when I was reporting, I took these photos: The condos/apartments across from Founders Oak looked intact, too.
PORTLAND OREGON:
A firefighting team from Portland Oregon was on site in the streets above Monument and McKendree. They have been putting on the embers/ashes that periodically start smoking again. They told CTN that they had put out six small “smoking” areas by noon today, January 16.
DWP CREWS:
DWP Crews were cutting down wires and will have to replace numerous wooden utility poles that burned. CTN asked if the wires might be buried underground. No. If that was the case, all of the utilities would have go underground and that might take to long. Would the wooden poles be replaced with steel poles? Maybe. Most likely it will be wood poles replacing the burnt wood poles.
MOVING:
This editor, which has been mostly living in an apartment a couple of hours outside of L.A. is moving to Marina Del Rey, today, Friday. Thank you to all of the people who have offered and given help. This was a disaster that could have been prevented, and our elected officials and their hires need to be held accountable. There was a lengthy town hall meeting held last night, Thursday, January 16. Reporter Laurel Busby attended, and I will run her story tomorrow.
As always…… I look forward to your stories/updates. I can’t believe how & what these elected officials think!!! You’re right…….IQ testing needed!!
Thank you, Sue💕
It is nice to see you are moving on to an apartment.
We are also moving to an apartment on Friday in the 90066 zip code obtained through our insurance company.
I want to thank you for all your hard work providing information during all this trying time.
We LOVE you Sue!
