Sages Sought for Popular Program

The popular Sages and Seekers program that pairs a high school student with an adult 60+ returns to Palisades High School after the new year. The program is an inter-generational program that builds meaningful relationships between Sages (adults 60+) and Seekers (students 15-24). This program is an opportunity to share your life stories with an interested listener and to listen teen’s concerns.

It seems there are always more teens than sages. In a prior story, CTN learned that the teens are just looking for a nonjudgmental person to talk to: someone who will just listen. Palisades residents who are retired are urged to sign up for the once-a-week meeting, in which they are paired with a younger person.

The program also gets youth off social media and teaches them how to have a conversation with someone.

Program Director Rachel Shader said she has a few adults signed up but is looking for an additional 10 people.

The first session is a “meet and greet,” and during the second session, Sages and Seekers participate in “speed dating.” Each adult meets each student for a few minutes.  After that session, students pick three to four of the Sages they would like to be paired with. Then, the facilitator makes the pairings.

The sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. on January 28, February 5, 12, 19, 26 and March 5, 12, 19 and held on the Palisades High School campus.  Shader asks adults to arrive around 2:30 p.m. to escape the high school. click here.
