It would seem impossible that there would be economically deprived individuals in Pacific Palisades, but once you read the definition, one knows it is true.
Economic deprivation is a condition in which individuals or households struggle to meet their basic needs. It can also be a state in which individuals perceive that what they need or are entitled to is ignored or denied.
Once again, many people are crying foul because the incidental Trump/Vance yard political signs are being stolen.
The thefts can be understood through a sociological lens: the people don’t have money to buy their own Trump signs, so they steal them. As the definition of economically deprived reminds us, “individuals perceive that what they need or are entitled to is ignored or denied.”
To stop the thefts of political yard signs, it would seem the local Pacific Palisades Community Council would want to start a GoFundMe page in order to raise funds for individuals to purchase their own Trump yard signs.
Or perhaps there are leftover Trump signs from a prior campaign that could be recycled and given to those in need. (Pence could simply be crossed out with a magic marker).
CTN has not heard of any Harris/Walz signs being stolen, yet, but if they are taken, maybe a bake sale could be held to help raise funds for those people who covet the signs as much as they do a shiny new BMW.
Just a general reminder as November 5, gets closer, Will Rogers said “A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.”
What does that mean? We don’t all bet on the same horse. Even if you don’t like the horse someone is betting on, it doesn’t mean you should take its saddle. . . . Just let other’s opinions go and be strong in your own convictions.
Sue – You wrote this piece? Yikes. Snarky.
Our across-the street neighbors had three or four Democratic yard signs taken from their lawn months ago, and the neighbors had to buy new signs to replace the stolen ones. This kind of theft is not specific to one particular party.
Yes, I did write it. I had hoped that both the Democratic and Republican parties could put out a plea to leave signs alone –but that hasn’t happened.
We all know we shouldn’t steal. I also didn’t want to scold people. I thought humor was a better way to go.
Sue
Thank you, Sue. We are sensing so much anger under the surface. At the same time, if young people are responsible for the sign thefts, with the California lax laws on shoplifting, and defund the police attitude, lifting any item, especially something of “low” cash value would seem to be hardly more than a prank (possibly with surreptitious parental pats on the head).
However, when Palisades Republicans don’t feel they can hold public advertised meetings; and local Jewish congregations have recently had to hire armed security for religious services, we need to face facts that as an American community, we have lost sight of basic civility.
P. S.: The MSM are Not our friends! Blessings and gratitude for your local real news!
Sitting the Pacific Palisades Republican Table every Sunday since the beginning of March, I can confirm that people have tried to turn the table over, screamed “F-You”
Spit at us and because of this, I now try to make sure there is security by our table every Sunday. Our table sells nothing, we give out FREE pocket constitutions, American Flags to kids and buttons. We want the best for our country. Through my eyes, if you’re a democrat in Pacific Palisades, you can do anything. But if you’re a republican (like me), it’s like being a 2nd class citizen.
Good job Sue. Every single person I know in the Palisades who display Trump Vance signs have had them vandalized or stolen, every single person. Unless the Harris signs immediately get replaced I have not seen or heard of any being taken. Hang in there Diane, it takes a brave person to put up with all the nasty comments you deal with every Sunday. I have been witness a couple times to the abuse aimed at you and your friends.
