Members of Resilient Palisades were presented with a certificate of recognition by Councilman Mike Bonin for there 2022 Earth Day Celebration at Will Rogers Park. In 2023 and 204, the group will host a celebration on the Village Green.
The Resilient Palisades Earth Day Celebration, sponsored by the Pacific Palisades Rotary Club, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, at The Village Green.
The little triangular private park in the heart of the village, surrounded by Sunset Boulevard, Antioch and Swarthmore Streets will provide numerous educational and fun opportunities.
The time coincides with the Sunday Palisades Farmers Market, and after picking up fresh vegetables, pop over and learn more from the numerous sources that will be there.
Organizations presenting include, not only Resilient Palisades, but also the Pacific Palisades Forestry Committee, Temescal Canyon Association, The Village Green, Pacific Palisades Community Council, Palisades Rotary Club, Sierra Club, Heal the Bay, LA Waterkeeper, LA Parks Foundation and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy.
During the four-hour celebration there will be live music from The Ashley Family, The Shambles and The Harvard Yardbird.
This event is for the family and there will be children’s activities, which will be led through Camp Wildcraft and by L.I.F.E. (Palisades High School students).
Food will be available through La Crepe du Jardin, Shane’s Tamales and Fruit Stand.
Informational companies available will include Athens Services, TruEarth, Prana by Lana, Ridwell and Cabbage Hill Fertilizer Co.
Since 1970, the United States has celebrated Earth Day on April 22. The day marks the anniversary of the birth of the environmental movement. This movement led to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Acts.
Earth Day founder Gaylord Nelson, then a Democratic U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, felt he needed to do something after witnessing the 1969 massive offshore oil spill in Santa Barbara.
