Palisades Symphony Orchestra to Perform April 7

Conductor Maxim Kuzin will lead the Palisades Symphony Orchestra.

The Palisades Symphony Orchestra, founded by the late Joel Lish, will hold a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, at the Palisades Lutheran Church, 15905 Sunset Boulevard.

New maestro, Maxim Kuzin will conduct. Prior to his newest role, the Ukrainian-born conductor is currently the Music Director of the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic and the UC Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra. He also guest conducted for several Eastern European orchestras, including the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, Presidents Orchestra of Ukraine, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Georgia.

Kuzin, who moved to the United States in 2014, received his doctoral degree in Orchestral Conducting at UCLA.

He has been recognized as an Emerging Artist by the League of American Orchestras’ Symphony Magazine and received the Elaine Krown Klein Fine Arts Scholarship Award.
Kuzin has lectured at Harvard and other institutions and served on the faculty of the Philadelphia International Music Festival, as well as Head of the Instrumental Division of the Colibri International Arts Competition for Young.

The appointment as the conductor of the Palisades Symphony, founded in 1966, marks a new chapter in his career.

He hopes to enrich the cultural fabric of this community through innovative programming, educational initiatives, and the promotion of musical excellence. Under his leadership, Kuzin wants to make classical music accessible to all.

On the April 7 program is Overture to the Barber of Seville (Rossini) and Pavane (Faure).

Those pieces will be followed by Zigunerweisen (Sarasate) performed with violin soloist Niv Ashkenazi. The program will end with Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 (Brahams).
