For Veterans Day, the Chapin siblings presented at a Daughers of the American Revolution meeting.
Veterans Day is always observed on November 11, however many communities hold the celebration on other days in order to allow more people to participate.
Two Palisades Scouts honored Veterans by going to a meeting of the Santa Monica chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on Veterans Day.
William Chapin, a third-year Scout and a patrol leader, and his sister Mimi, a Webelos Scout presided over a flag ceremony and then prepared a White Table, “The Missing Man Table or the Fallen Comrade Table” to honor Veterans missing in action.
Each item on the Missing Man Table represents the emotions and feelings reserved for those who did not come home. The table is round, to show our everlasting concern for our missing men. The cloth is white, symbolizing the purity of their motives when answering the call to serve.
The single red rose; displayed in a vase, reminds us of the lives of these Americans and their loved ones. The red ribbon symbolizes our continued determination to account for our missing. A slice of lemon reminds us of their bitter fate; captured and missing in a foreign land. A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears of our missing and the lighted candle reflects our hope for their return, alive or dead.
The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain us and the glass is inverted, symbolizing their inability to share a toast. The chair is empty, the seat that remains unclaimed at the table.

BEAUTIFUL!! I was a Girl Scout (many years ago) and treasure the friends and experiences I had. A great organization. My brother was also an Eagle Scout and I remember my Mother and I attending many programs, award nights, and activities that he and others were involved in.
