Vehicle crime prevention tip:
Recently ransacked parked unlocked vehicles have reported vehicle registration paper-work being taken, in addition to or in lieu of valuables from the vehicle interior.
According to LAPD officials, the vehicle registrations can be altered and used by criminals to perpetrate the sale of stolen vehicles, even if the vehicle it was taken from is not the vehicle that was intended for illegal sale.
LAPD recommends that vehicle owners keep a copy of the vehicle registration in the car with the registered owner address blacked out, keeping the original registration in a safe location other than the vehicle, to make the process of altering the registration much more difficult for the criminals.

As far as residences, remember:
• Lock your doors and close the windows.
• Set your alarm.
• Do not leave ladders unsecured on your property.
• A window screen does not secure your home.

Moore reminds residents to report crimes. If not reported, a crime is not entered in the LAPD Database, which is used to allocate resources: i.e. more crimes, more cops.
For a crime in process, call 911. To report a crime that has already occurred, report it to the West Los Angeles Police Department at 1663 Butler Ave., or call (310) 444-0702.
