If you have a pair or several pairs of shoes in your closet that are barely worn, consider donating them to Soles4Good. There will be a collection bin in front of Paul Revere Middle School, 1450 Allenford Avenue, from May 1 through May 5.

Since its founding in 2018, Soles4Good students have collected and shipped more than 15,000 pairs that have helped kickstart 13 micro-businesses in El Salvador and Senegal.

Co-founded by Amaan Furniturewala and Alec Katz (Furniturewala is now at the University of Pennsylvania and Katz is at Stanford), the mission has continued with students at Palisades High, Paul Revere, Harvard-Westlake, Warner and Crescent Valley.

The group’s mission: “Soles4Good empowers struggling women in El Salvador to build sustainable futures for themselves and their communities by providing used shoes and a basic micro-business education.”

Shoes are collected through individuals, shoe-drives and footwear companied and shipped to El Salvador.

Motivated women are selected, educated in basic business and math, and given access to the shoes necessary to create their own shoe business.

By selling the shoes, the women generate enough money to provide for their families and reinvest back into their business.
