UC David Master Gardener Emi Carvell will provide a class on succulents at noon on Saturday, April 8, at the Palisades Branch Library, 861 Alma Real. After the program, participants will receive a small succulent to take home. Space is limited and an RSVP is required: palsds@lapl.org.

Carvell has spent more than 2,000 hours working in the community as a master gardener, teaching a variety of classes on vegetable and organic gardening, succulent container gardening and vermicomposting (composting using worms), as well as motivational programs.

Master Gardeners are volunteers from the community who are trained by University of California Cooperative Extension specialists and other qualified instructors. The Master Gardeners use research-based information to promote environmentally responsible and sustainable horticultural practices in the home, community and school landscapes.

There is a wide variety of succulents in diverse shapes and sizes. They tend to require less care than traditional houseplants. They can be grown indoor or outdoor in Southern California. Carvell will provide an afternoon of knowledge about this hardy, diverse plant.
