The Pepperdine Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art will showcase “The Cultivators: Highlights from the Kinsey African American Art and History Collection” from January 15 through March 27. Admission is free.
A special opening celebration will be held on Saturday, February 19, from noon to 5 p.m. There is no admission charge, and the public is invited to attend.
Organized by the Bernard & Shirley Kinsey Foundation for Arts & Education and KBK Enterprises, this is an impressive survey of African American history and culture.
This exhibition of the award-winning Kinsey Collection is the first major hometown presentation of the collection since 2007, and includes masterful paintings and sculpture, photographs, rare books, letters and manuscripts.
Bernard and Shirley Kinsey are longtime residents of Pacific Palisades.
The exhibition comprises works collected over several decades by Bernard (Pepperdine MBA ’73) and Shirley (Pepperdine MA ’76) Kinsey and curated by their son Khalil.
“The Cultivators” celebrates the achievements of African Americans from the 16th century through the years of slavery and Emancipation, to the Civil Rights Movement and up to the present day.
Admission requires a timed entry reservation before visiting the campus to view the exhibition. Up to six tickets may be reserved. Names will be required for all attendees to access the Pepperdine campus.
