Later this month and in October, the Sew Chateau at 833 Via de la Paz will offer two-hour classes for kids, teens and adults. All fabric and supplies are included for every class ($65 per class).
Adult classes will be from noon to 2 p.m. On September 20, students will sew a pajama bottom, September 21 is an apron and September 22 a zipper tote.
Teen classes (ages 13 to 16) are from 3 to 5 p.m. and include learning how to sew with knits to make a sweatshirt on September 18 and how to sew a crop top on September 25.
Kids classes (7 to 13) are scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. on September 18 (make your own buttons and fold over wallet) and September 25 (zipper tote bag). Classes will also be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on September 20 (sew with knits), September 21 (heart zipper purse) and on September 22 (PJs and popcorn).
The staff has been fully vaccinated, and all guests and staff are required to wear masks. The sewing spaces have been spaced out. Machines and tables are disinfected after each class.
After-school sewing will resume in November. The store also offers sewing parties, which make for a unique birthday opportunity.
The Baby Lock Jubilant sewing machine model, used at the Sewing Chateau, is available for purchase. It is computerized with several buttonhole options, edging stitches, speed control and a self-threader.
Now through September 30, any person purchasing a machine will receive a free gift of a yard of fabric, two yards of elastic and a measuring tape – plus a free gift pack, such as a scrunchie-making kit.
In addition to fun kits, the store also carries items such as seam rippers, tailors chalk, machine needles, dressmaker shears and embroidery scissors, for residents who already sew and need replacements.
