Attend a L.A. City Rec and Parks Board of Commissioners meeting virtually to follow what the City is doing at with different Rec Centers.

The Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Commissioners meet the first and third Thursday of each month at 9:30 a.m. The meetings are rotated to various recreation centers, which means that many of them are held in the far reaches of L.A. and require a long “commute” from Pacific Palisades. (Remember those days when we used to drive the freeways and curse the traffic?)

Your Circling the News reporter had to drive more than an hour to attend a meeting near Dodger Stadium, and even longer to reach a meeting in Eagle Rock. The Commissioners haven’t met at the Palisades Recreation Center for a good 10 to 12 years.

The scheduled April 16 meeting at the Cheviot Hills Recreation Center had to be cancelled, not only because of “safer at home” orders, but also because homeless people were now living in the gym.

Luckily for Palisades residents, the May 7 meeting at 9:30 a.m. will be held virtually, allowing for everyone to participate, providing they sign up ahead of time. Visit: laparks.org/commissioners/ens for the early notification system subscription.

The ENS allows one to receive e-mails and a link to the agenda when a public meeting notice is posted.

The website lists several City commissions and committees that residents can subscribe to. To reach Rec and Parks, scroll down. Enter your name and email address, then select the agendas you want to subscribe to: 1. RAP Board Commissioners agendas; 2. Concessions task force agendas; and/or 3. Facility repair and maintenance task force agendas. We recommend clicking on all three. (By reading the facility repair agenda, CTN learned about the $4 million over-budget request for Potrero Canyon Park.)

Click on subscribe and the “confirmation notice” page will be visible upon completion.
