Volunteers at the YMCA help package food that is given to those in need.

Palisades-Malibu YMCA’s annual campaign started on March 1 and runs through the end of the month. Executive Director Jim Kirtley wrote they are asking Y members and the community to support the Y by giving a financial gift.

“Our Annual Campaign goal is $20,000,” Kirtley said.  “That will help our Y function, impact the community by being able to offer Financial Assistance and other programs like the volunteer-led Food Distribution program on Thursdays.”

The Y has also offered free membership to teens, supported the youth and government program, and provided children’s programs and camps.

On March 30, this Y is holding a Easter Egg hunt for children in the community.

YMCA is a worldwide youth organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, with more than 64 million beneficiaries in 120 countries. It was founded in London on 6 June 1844 by George Williams as the Young Men’s Christian Association. It is a nonprofit committed to strengthening community by empowering your people and improving the health and well-being of people of all ages.

Kirtley has asked several people to help “campaign” to raise funds. The people  helping to raise funds are known as campaigners.

Those campaigners are welcome to attend dinners that are held on Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the front exercise room.

“All campaigners are welcome,” Kirtley said. “If you are able to attend any or all of the dinners, please let me know (at the latest by 5 p.m. on the Tuesday before each dinner) in order to purchase the correct amount of food.”  The next dinner will be held on March 20 and the final dinner, the “Celebration Dinner,” will be held March 27.

If you are able to donate to the local Y, every amount helps, https://secure2.convio.net/ymcala/site/Donation2?df_id=3897&3897.donation=form1&mfc_pref=T
