One of the favorite aspects of the Palisades 4th of July parade, for many, are the bagpipers who regularly march on the route. Now residents have a chance to hear top quality bagpipe music in a top-notch competition, being held locally.

The Western United States Pipe Band Association will hold its 2024 Western States Champion Solo Invitational at the Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church, 15821 Sunset Boulevard on November 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is an inaugural solo piping competition for the top professional and amateur bagpipers in the Western States.

The prestigious invitation-only event will be adjudicated by some of the world’s finest pipers and piping judges; 5-time Glenfiddich-winner Roddy MacLeod MBE, “Voice of the Worlds” Bob Worrall, North American piping legend Jack Lee, and multiple Glenfiddich and Oban winner, Stuart Liddell MBE.

These remarkable musicians have also agreed to play in a pre-competition Judges Ceilidh, the likes of which can usually only be experienced at Winter Storm or in the UK. The Judges Ceilidh will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 1 at the Church.
