Kathleen Katims, who ran a workshop for the seniors, “Saved by a Story,” at the Palisades Library for several years is now offering a free writing workshop series with co-leader Julie Kern Schwerdtfeger for Wildfire Survivors.
The program will be held at the Peter Fetterman Gallery from 10 to 11:30 a.m., starting on April 5. “Our hope is to provide a space to share, process and for neighbors and friends to connect,” Katims said. To register kathleenkatims@gmail.com or (310) 569-3492.
The idea is simple, “Participants who have been impacted by the fires come together to write about the history of the cherished places we have been, what we have lost (and found), and how we will chart a way forward. We will write to timed prompts to spark creativity, share and savor stories, and connect with friends and neighbors,” Katims said and urged people to “Come together and write, choose to share (or not, you decide), listen and write some more. Creativity and community in a non-judgmental environment.”
Planned writing dates are Saturdays April 5, May 3 and June 7. Katims reminds participants to bring a notebook, a pen or a computer, if you prefer writing on it. “Please be sure to arrive a couple of minutes early to get settled so we can get started promptly at 10 a.m.” Katims said, and noted there will be an opportunity to see the photography exhibit after the writing group.
The Peter Fetterman Photography Gallery is located at 2525 Michigan Avenue, Gallery 1A, Santa Monica, Ca. 90404, (310) 453-6463.
