VOCES8, which has been called the “Rolls-Royce of British vocal ensembles” will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 25, at St. Matthew’s Church, 1031 Bienveneda Avenue.
The program “After Silence,” which is part of the St. Matthew’s Music Guild 38th Season, will feature selections from Monteverdi’s Madrigals, Book VI, Benjamin Britten’s “Hymn to St. Cecilia” and masterpieces by Gibbons, Victoria, Rachmaninoff and others.
While in Southern California, VOCES8 will participate in a choral workshop with the USC Thornton Chamber Singers who will share the stage in Jake Runestad’s “Let My Love Be Heard.”
In the group’s 15-year career, VOCES8 has performed at Wigmore Hall, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Cité de la Musique Paris, Vienna Konzerthaus, Tokyo Opera City, NCPA Beijing, Sydney Opera House, Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall, Victoria Concert Hall Singapore and Palacio de Bellas Artes Mexico City.
In 2020, VOCES8 launched “LIVE From London,” a 10-week, global streaming festival that connected performers with audiences around the world. It was designed to raise money for artists, venues and promoters to cover their COVID-19 losses, and to reunite the world’s many singers, and audiences with much needed live concerts.
It was followed by a Christmas festival featuring musicians from around the world, premieres of new music, and a young performer feature.
