The Ronald Reagan American Legion Post 283, through Model Mugging, will host self-defense classes for women on Saturday, March 30. Registration is open now.
Attendees will be taught how to protect themselves, gain situational awareness, learn boundary setting skills, and self-defense techniques that can be used to prevent general attacks and sexual assault through this three-hour introductory workshop.
A female/male co-instructor team will go through training and self-defense methods. The male instructor will role-play the actions of a realistic assailant, allowing participants to build a foundation of skills.
The class size is limited and meant for those aged 15 and older. The first session will be from 9 a.m. to noon and the second session will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $100 for community members, and members of the Legion Family can use a coupon code to bring the cost down to $10.
The workshop will cover:
1. Five principles of Self Defense
2. Four general options if confronted with a threat
3. Boundary Setting & Conflict De-escalation
4. Full Force fight against frontal attack against the padded assailant.
5. Rear attack defense, which also involves learning to defend from the ground against the padded assailant.
