Most Pacific Palisades residents have suffered with the drama of the October fires, including evacuation, smoke and traffic. Now it’s time to escape and be entertained.
“Ruthless! The Musical” will start its six-weekend run tomorrow Friday, November 1, at Pierson Playhouse, 941 Temescal Canyon Road. This hilarious spoof of big musicals, such as “Mame” and “Gypsy,” along with a dramatic play and movie like “The Bad Seed,” will provide the perfect entertainment.
The plot revolves around 8-year-old Tina Denmark, who knows she was born to play Pippi Longstocking. She is capable of doing “anything” to get the part she wants in her school musical. A sociopathic, but adorable young girl, she is the daughter of naïve 1950s housewife Judy.
The New York Times wrote in a review that this is “A spoof that has enough absurd plot twists and multiple identities to fill several old movies.”
Directed by Alta Abbot, the Theatre Palisades cast includes Suzan Solomon, Benni Ruby, Jenna Nicole Sullivan, Jessica D. Stone, Jon Sparks and Carly Reeves.
The show, produced by Sherman Wayne and Martha Hunter, is under the musical direction of Brian Murphy and choreographer Victoria Miller. The music in “Ruthless!” is written by Marvin Laird, with book and lyrics by Joel Paley.
WARNING: This show is recommended for ages 12 and older because of strong language and suggested violence.
Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturdays, and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. The show will run through Sunday, December 8. Ticket prices are $27 for adults, $25 for seniors and students. Call (310) 454-1970 or visit: theatrepalisades.org.
