Activities for toddler and early elementary:
Hen Wen & Friends will be available on Instagram @lapubliclibrary at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21. Geared for pre-K through third grade, this musical and puppet show asks questions about how to best live life and serve others around us.
Yoga Storytime includes stories, yoga poses and mindfulness exercise at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays. This event is recommended for kids ages 3 to 7.
Virtual Baby/Toddler Storytime with Ms. Ashley is 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and can be found on Facebook @brentwoodbranch.
Glue Resist Art
Draw a picture on thick paper with white glue. After the glue dries paint over it with watercolor paints. The paint won’t stick to the glue, and the lines will pop out of this colorful art.
Make a Map
Draw a map of the house, neighborhood, or a place a child has made up. Create a key with symbols to represent places to get food, restrooms, trees where squirrels live, dragons – let a kid’s imagination go wild.
Activities for kids in grades 1-12:
The Friends of the Palisades Library are sponsoring a writing contest for grades 1-12. Entries can be short stories, essays or poetry. The theme is “Surprise Us!” The contest is open citywide, and winners will receive gift certificates to Diesel Books (which can be redeemed online). In each category, first place is $250, second place is $100 and third place is $50. Visit: friendsofpalilibrary.org.
