Many young Palisadians are mourning the death of Samantha “Sami” Liber, a Brentwood student who was killed in an ATV accident in Wyoming. It was reported that vigils have been held in Pacific Palisades and Brentwood, allowing teens to gather to give each other solace and support with the loss of a friend.
Sami, a popular local youth was with members of her family, her mom and sister, and a larger group that went for ATV ride with the guide company Jackson Hole Adventure Rentals.
Somehow, Sami got separated from the group on Shadow Mountain and crashed her ATV on August 6 in the early afternoon. She sustained serious head trauma despite having a helmet on.
The Teton County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m. and activated a Search and Rescue operation.
According to a local newspaper “A critically injured Liber was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center but died early Thursday morning [July 8]. She was only 16.”
The owner of the rental company said that all participants have a safety briefing before they start the tour and all are required to wear helmets. A spokesperson said, “But, we’re all processing it and trying to figure out the best way to move forward and have everything be as safe as it can be for our customers.”
So sad. It’s why I hate ATVs (and jet skis). A friend’s nephew was died in an ATV accident at his twin brother’s bachelor party.
