Artist Teresa Raschilla did a self-portrait with pencil.

The Pacific Palisades Art Association will have a meeting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 21 with artist Teresa Raschilla, who will discuss pencil drawing.

Raschillla wrote to Association President Annette Alexakis, “After years of drawing in pencil, I took my first art class that taught me how to use graphite the way professional artists do. I don’t want to say that I was doing it wrong that whole time, but I was definitely missing out on the subtlety and versatility of the medium.

“In that class, I learned how to draw using additive and reductive techniques in graphite and charcoal, and what the differences are between the two materials,” said Raschilla, who included a self-portrait she did, using the new reductive approach (above).

On Sunday, she will demonstrate that reductive process, and share what to look for when selecting pencils, paper and accessories.

If you would like to learn more about the Art Association or participate in the Sunday class, email Alexakis at palisadesart@gmail.com.
