Wimaw To Speak at the Orchid Society Meeting

Orchid collector Winn Winmaw will share his knowledge of the vanda orchids of Burma at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, at the Woman’s Club, 901 Haverford Ave. at a regular meeting of the Malibu Orchid Society. Guests and perspective new members are welcome.

Vanda coerulea and Paphiopedilum charlesworthii are found abundantly in the wild in eastern Burma and Winmaw will share his orchid knowledge from his trips to Burma.

He collected his first specimen from the forest floor when he was seven years old.

Thirty years ago, Winn moved to the United States and settled in Orange County, where he began collecting and growing orchids. Today, he oversees a large orchid collection, many of the vandaceous species.
