(Editor’s note: Barbara Marinacci received a Golden Sparkplug from the Pacific Palisades Community Council for her efforts in working with xeriscape garden in Temescal across from the Palisades High alternative school in 2011. She also served years on the PPCC. She will be unable to attend the 90th Birthday Party held annual by the Woman’s Club to celebrate this town’s nonageniarns. She sent this letter to be shared with the community.)
Letter from Barbara Marinacci to Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club:
The Palisades community’s appearance over the years has benefited a lot from the Woman’s Club’s financial help with beautifying a number of different locations that involved planting or tending or fixing up many different garden areas.
I was a board member of the Pacific Palisades Garden Club, Palisades Beautiful and the Sunset Beach Association. The beneficiaries of the Woman’s Club grants were all the Palisades public school gardening programs, from all the elementaries to Paul Revere and PaliHigh’s next-door alternative school; public places with planters, street-tree parkway areas, public parks (notably reviving and then expanding the names of the grantee organization).
As the applicant’s writer for Woman’s Club grants, my name was called up three times at the ceremony when grants were awarded, and as I got up to take the stage and receive the precious envelope, the seated audience began to clap!
Pacific Palisades continues to benefit from the Woman’s Club’s lively and very generous presence here for many years, plus its lending out its attractive, capacious and comfortable meeting room for many community meetings taking place very close to the Town center. Please keep going on here forever!
