Speaker Peter Lin will present “Orchids Alfresco! The Best Orchids to Grow Outdoors” at the monthly meeting of the Malibu Orchid Society.
The group will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, in the Community Methodist Church, Hart Lounge, 801 Via de la Paz, in Pacific Palisades.
Lin’s fast-paced PowerPoint presentation will highlight some of the easiest orchids to grow in a Southern California backyard.
He will also discuss some of the challenges to growing orchids outside and provide some great tips on how to overcome them. His talk will appeal to both the novice and more advanced orchid grower.
Lin started growing orchids more than 40 years ago, but due to school and starting his career, his orchid passion was temporarily interrupted. Now, he specializes in miniature orchids and has received numerous AOS awards for his species and hybrids.
Lin is an accredited judge with the American Orchid Society and he is also a hybridizer of mini-carts and mini Vandas.
He enjoys meeting with other orchid enthusiasts and can often be found at various orchid shows and societies around the country. He maintains a collection of several thousand orchids in Southern California in three greenhouses. He has thousands of photos of his orchids that he maintains on Flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/minicatt/collections/
He has published articles in both Orchid Digest as well as in Orchids magazine. His other interests in growing orchids include Dendrobiums, Angraecoids, and Neofinetias.
Light refreshments will be served at the meeting. Residents are welcome to attend to learn more about growing orchids in Pacific Palisades.
