L.A. Mayor Karen Bass presents an award to Sue Kohl.

Sue Kohl, President of the Pacific Palisades Community Council, received the Women of Impact Award presented by L.A. Mayor Karen Bass. When she learned of the award, Kohl said, “With all of the impressive women working to make the city of Los Angeles a better place and working to make living conditions better for Angelenos, I was incredibly honored to have been chosen by Mayor Bass for this award.

Each of the 15 Councilmembers make a recommendation from their district for an individual to be recognized. Kohl’s award was special because it came directly from the Mayor. She was one of only two people recognized; the other was Michele Siqueiros, who serves on the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angles, Planned Parenthood Action Project and the Pitzer College Board of Trustees. Siqueiros and Kohl met with the Mayor briefly before the ceremony.

The Mayor recognized Kohl not only for her leadership on the Community Council but also for her work with the Pacific Palisades Task Force for Homelessness.

A realtor, Kohl’s past and present community work includes support of the Westside Guild of Children’s Hospital, Union Rescue Mission and the Berkshire Hathaway Charitable Foundation. Her passions include the following charity causes, Save the Children, World Central Kitchen and White Helmets. This prestigious award was given in conjunction with the Commission on the Status of Women. Prior Palisadian awardees include Haldis Toppel, Sharon Kilbride and Sharon Browning. This is the 35th year for the awards.

The award was previously called the Pioneer Woman award, but this year the name of the award has been changed to “Women of Impact.”

In the certificate presented to Kohl by Bass, it stated “Each year, the Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department (L.A. Civil Rights) along with its Commission on the Status of Woman, invests in women and girls by providing services and community-building events to create a more just Los Angeles. The Women of Impact Awards honors women who have demonstrated their commitment to advancing the well-being of Angelenos.”

Upon receiving the certificate, Kohl said that she told the Mayor and her staff that “I was particularly thrilled to receive the large framed certificate, as all of my art had burned in the fire and now I would have my first piece of art to hang on the wall at my current house.”

Sue Kohl received a certificate from the Mayor’s office.

This is wonderful and Sue deserves but shouldn’t our illustrious mayor be more concerned about permits than awards
