Your kid promised that they would do something every day this summer and you didn’t need them to sign up for camps. So far it has been nothing but sleeping late, and too much screen time. Luckily there’s a good alternative locally, the Hightower Palisades Summer Tennis Camp.

Tennis Coach Ron Hightower, and Palisades Charter High School Head Coach Bud Kling spearhead the program, which is designed for players of all skill levels.

The camp, which is held at the high school tennis courts (adjacent to the baseball field) at 15777 Bowdoin, runs Monday through Friday through August 9. There are two sessions per day, 2:30 to 4 p.m. and from 4 to 5:30 p.m. (and your teen can still sleep in).

Junior players may choose one or two sessions each day. Reservations are a must.

The camp features outstanding professional instruction that includes Hightower Tennis trained staff, all-court live drilling, agility training, court positioning, strategy and stroke review (video analysis).

Contact Hightower for a registration form (818) 687-4870 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m. best time or evening) or by email hightowertennis@gmail.com. Private lessons and customized group coaching before and after camp is available. Additionally expert racket stringing, and equipment demonstrations will be available.

Hightower, who is the founder of Hightower Tennis is a former coach for the U.S. Jr. Davis Cup. He grew up in Los Angeles and received a full scholarship to play D1 tennis at Arkansas. He is a two-time All-American and was a top 100 ATP World-ranked player.

Joining him at the camp is Kling, who has won 51 City/CTN tennis championships while coaching at PaliHi. He has been inducted into the Los Angeles and Southern California Sports Hall of fame.

Palisades High School took the top the City Championship for team, individual and doubles titles under coach Bud Kling (top left).
