The Rustic Canyon Recreation Center Pool has not been open for several years. On December 19, Rec and Parks Commissioners will vote to repair it.

At the December 19 meeting of the Board of Recreation and Park Board of Commissioners, the repair of the Rustic Canyon Swimming Pool is on the agenda. After approval of minutes, the general manager’s update and general public comment that approval is the second item listed under Board Reports 24-263.

The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. at El Sereno Recreation Center at 4721 Klamath Street. One can listen virtually, but public comments are taken only in person. To listen to the meeting dial (669) 900-6833 and enter 854 4549 8284, and then press # or go to the link: click here.

In July, CTN reported that eight of the 56 pools operated by RAP were closed, including Rustic Canyon. At that time, RAP Public Information officer Rose Watson said, “The long-term plan for Rustic Canyon pool is to demolish and construct a modern pool facility that will meet the needs of the community. Immediate repairs required for reopening include electrical work, plumbing and pump repairs.”

Watson said there were plans to have the Rustic Pool operational by next summer, unless funding could be secured for a full-pool replacement project.

Now, six months later, the commissioners will vote on spending $210,896 for the rehabilitation of deteriorated mechanical equipment and damaged structures.

About $50,404 of Rustic Canyon Quimby Funds will be used and the remaining funding will come from park fees, which were collected within five miles of Rustic Canyon Recreation Center.
