The photo from Enchanted Way shows the smoke and fire approaching that street. Although mandatory evacuations had not yet gone into effect for this street, residents should have a Go Bag ready. Early evacuation is recommended.

The Camp Fire in Northern California killed 29 people and destroyed more than 6,400 homes, making it the most destructive wildfire in the state’s history. Growing at the rate of nearly 80 football fields per minute, the fire burned Paradise, which was home to 27,000 people.

Sure, they tell us to have our “go” bag ready when a fire is approaching and mandatory evacuations are going into effect, but what should you have ready? Below are some suggestions:

  1. Important papers that are not in a safe deposit box, such as:
  • Copy of your passport
  • Children’s birth certificates
  • Marriage or divorce papers
  • Insurance information
  • Titles for any property you own
  • Tax information
  1. Family pictures
  2. Medications, glasses, hearing aids
  3. First-aid kit
  4. Cell-phone charger, flashlight
  5. Cash and credit cards
  6. Pet food, pet carrier, leashes
  7. Additional clothes
