Senior Alliance to Discuss Pelvic Floor Disorders
The Palisades Alliance for Seniors will tackle a topic that many people don’t want to discuss in public: “A Problem ‘Down There:’ Pelvic Floor Disorders Demystified.” Providence Saint John urogynecologist Dr. Lauren A. Cadish will be the speaker.
The free program will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 6, at the Palisades Library community room, 861 Alma Real. The community is invited.
Pelvic floor disorders are actually a hidden epidemic that affect a large proportion of women, and the prevalence of the disorder increases with age. According to one statistic, about one third of all women are affected by prolapse or similar conditions over a lifetime.
Dr. Cadish will discuss pelvic organ prolapse, which happens when the muscles and tissues supporting the pelvic organs (uterus, bladder and rectum) become weak or loose, resulting in: a feeling of pressure or fullness in the pelvic area; a low backache; painful intercourse; a feeling that something is falling out of the vagina; urinary problems; constipation; and spotting or bleeding. The doctor will explain the diagnosis and treatment options.
Specializing in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, Cadish is a graduate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Her residency was at Beth Israel Deaconess/Harvard Medical School, with a fellowship at UC Irvine Medical Center.
Her research has been presented at national and international meetings and published in noted medical journals.
