A reader, whose home was destroyed in the fire, now has a new address – as do many Pacific Palisades residents.
She wrote: “I discovered that my permanent USPS address change triggered a change in my voter registration, although I had not changed it at DMV nor on-line click here..”
Even more concerning, she received NO notification from the county that her voting address had been changed. “I only found out because someone else advised me to check my voter registration information online,” she said, and sent a link where people can check their registration. click here.
And why should one care? If a resident is now living in South Bay, in Redondo Beach for example, they may not be eligible to vote in Los Angeles City elections. Many residents may want a say in the upcoming 2026 mayoral election for example.
The reader wrote, “I encourage everyone to keep their Palisades address and update their mailing address. I re-registered to vote with my Palisades address, but with a new mailing address so that I can receive all the voter information by mail.”
Should non residents, those who move out of Los Angeles, be permitted to vote for mayor in a city they no longer reside in?
If they are temporarily relocated because their homes burned, yes. And if they plan to move back to Los Angeles, yes.
