Safety on Will Rogers Beach to be Discussed
The Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness (PPTFH) will host a community forum “Safety on our Beach” on 7 p.m., Monday, September 24 at the Palisades Library community room, 861 Alma Real.
Speakers will include LAPD beach patrol officers Rusty Redican and Jimmy Soliman, Lifeguard Captain Robert Torres and the Chief Deputy Director of Beaches and Harbors Kerry Silverstrom.
“With the increasing number of persons camping at the beach and with a possible end to overnight curfews, we have concerns related to health and safety,” PPTFH members wrote, noting that representatives will offer suggestions for the general public when visiting Will Rogers Beach.
Since the PPTFH’s formation in 2016, more than 73 percent of the engaged homeless in Pacific Palisades have come off the streets: 50 homeless have been housed and an additional 30 people have received housing vouchers and are waiting to be placed in homes.
Through the PPTFH, two social workers have been hired who engage the homeless, and help those in need with services.
