Thanksgiving Weekend can be stressful with relatives, travel and too much stuffing, so Chamber Music Palisades is offering an antidote, a free concert on Sunday, December 1 at 3 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church, 801 Via de la Paz.
According to Psychology Today, there are three main ways music soothes the soul: The sympathetic nervous system is suppressed while the parasympathetic nervous system is heightened, indicating relaxation. Blood flow volume tends to rise when listening to classical music, demonstrating a relaxing effect.
Come take advantage of this delightful program that is suitable for all ages and includes music by Mozart, Telemann, Kreisler, Poulenc and Bartok.
The concert features musicians, who have performed around the world, and include Chamber co-founder and flutist Susan Greenberg, violinists Maya Magub and Jessica Guilderi and pianist Pierre Long-Tao Tang.
Susan Greenberg is a long-time flutist at Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and principal flute at Santa Monica Symphony. The Los Angeles Times has described her playing as “brilliant,” “elegant” and “supple,” and has lauded her “panache” and “musical projection.” Greenberg has recorded for more than 500 motion pictures and television shows.
Maya Magub is a British violinist who has performed in the world’s greatest concert halls and played on numerous movies and records. She has given solo performances for King Charles III and for Professor Stephen Hawking, and was invited to Buckingham Palace where she met Queen Elizabeth II.
American violinist Jessica Guideri is Concertmaster of the Santa Barbara Symphony and is an active recording musician. She can be heard on 500+ motion picture and television soundtracks. She was sponsored by Carnegie Hall and the U.S. Department of State as a cultural ambassador to the Balkan states. Guideri has also appeared as soloist in Taiwan, Brazil, and on the main stage of Carnegie Hall.
Her newest project is a chamber music experience in the magical land of Topanga, California called Music Above the Clouds.
