It doesn’t take a detective to determine there is indeed a mysterious book club in Pacific Palisades.
Here’s another clue: the club meets monthly, and the next meeting is 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 21. New members are welcomed to the Community Room in the Palisades Library, 861 Alma Real.
The book to be discussed this month is Murder in an English Village by Jessica Ellicott. This is the first book in the Beryl and Edwina mystery series.
The book centers around American adventuress Beryl Helliwell.
Helliwell in need of some peace and quiet, reads an ad from “a well-bred lady” requesting a lodger in 1920. It leads her to her old schoolmate Edwina Davenport, who is down on her luck in the hamlet of Walmsley Parva.
To defray local rumors about Edwina and her reduced finances, Beryl informs the village gossip that the two women are secret agents.
The next evening Edwina is attacked in her garden, and the friends realize this quiet village holds some deadly secrets.
If you don’t have time to read this book before Tuesday, please come join the group of mystery lovers, anyway. When the next selection is announced, one will have time to finish it prior to the following month’s gathering.
This group sounds like fun. I am not able to attend Tuesday 2/21 but I would like to know of future dates.
Thank you
