Anawalt Hardware Store in Pacific Palisades announced its reopening today February 14. A nice Valentine to the community, which depended not only on hardware merchandise, but also on the expertise of its staff.
The store shut down temporarily because of the devastating Palisades Fire that destroyed almost 75 percent of the Palisades community. On January 9, this editor was in the Ralphs parking lot as building owner Leland Ford and three other people kept putting out a spot fire on the Anawalt building. Without their efforts, the building and business would have been destroyed.
Due to those efforts, the building – and Anawalt sustained minor damage. Other buildings in the area burned to the ground, including the Chase Bank Building, Ralphs Grocery Store, Village School, 881 Alma Real and the buildings on Sunset from Monument to Carey.
Now, after weeks of cleanup and hard work, Anawalt is proud to reopen its doors and play a key role in rebuilding efforts, supporting the restoration of Pacific Palisades’ homes and businesses.
Temporary hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A press release from Anawalt noted that the store will carry: 1) A complete inventory of building materials 2) Expert advice and service from experienced staff members and 3) Support for small and large-scale renovation and rebuilding projects.
“We believe the reopened Pacific Palisades store stands for hope and resilience as the community comes together to recover from the wreckage,” Anawalt said.

My daughter had the pleasure of working with these fine people last year as the cashier. These are some of the most solid, kind and competent professionals one can deal with and we’re all lucky they saved their businesses (where was the LAFD??) so they can continue to serve our community when they are most needed.
